In addition to acquiring basic Hebrew language skills, your child will be enriched with learning about a variety of Jewish topics and experiencing Judaism from a hands-on approach.
To complement your family time as well as to create a learning environment that is positive for your child’s Jewish Education experience, students will gather approximately every other Sunday from 9:30 am to 12:00pm in our synagogue-learning centre.
Students will be divided according to their age and stage of development, where they will experience Judaism in a modern and dynamic approach to learning described in the various methods as listed below:
T’FILA & ZMIROT (PRAYER AND MUSIC)
Prayer and Music are an integral part of Jewish life. Each session, students will have the opportunity to pray with their peers at our Sunday morning T’filah. Parents are also invited and encouraged to attend. During T’filah, students will have the opportunity to lead others both individually and in groups in the recitation and/or chanting of some of our major prayers in our effort to help them become comfortable with the Daily, Shabbat and Festival Prayer services. In addition to T’filah, participants will have song sessions with our Cantor, where they will learn the joyous melodies that our ancestors have been singing for centuries. From holiday favourites, Israeli music, Sephardic music, to the songs of the Chassidim, participants will develop a repertoire of Jewish music that will last them a lifetime.
DRAMA (THEATRE)
One of the best ways that our children can learn the great Jewish stories of the bible and our tradition is through the art of drama and theatre. From re-enacting the Purim story to creating their own script for Moses’ revelation on Mount Sinai, your child will experience Jewish history through a creative lens that will speak to them on a multitude of levels.
Students will present their dramatic talents for family and friends at our end of year picnic.
AMANUT & VISHUL (ART & COOKING)
Participants will engage in various arts and crafts activities that correspond to our Jewish calendar and are related to core Jewish values.
Participants will also have the opportunity to show their culinary talents in our newly renovated kitchen. From baking puffy Hamentashen on Purim, to making savory latkes on Chanukah, your child will experience Judaism through one of our most sacred and tastiest traditions…food!
RIKUD & CHUGIM (FOLK DANCE & GAMES)
Your children will have the opportunity to learn Israeli Folk Dancing! This exciting activity will get your child off the computer and get them movin’ and groovin’ while they connect to Judaism and Israel on a whole new level.
Our proximity to Earl Bales Park will also make warm weather days a chance for your kids to get outdoors and to experience Judaism through sports and other outdoor games and activities.
B’YACHAD (PARENT AND CHILD EDUCATION)
Parents and/or other family members are invited and encouraged to learn with their children on B’yachad days. From studying Jewish texts to preparing for an upcoming holiday, to performing local acts of Social Justice, we invite you to come and help your child form a positive Jewish identity, while at the same time rejuvenating your own!
Core Jewish values will be discussed and families will have the opportunity to talk about how they can maintain a Jewish way of life both in the home as well as in the synagogue. (Approximately 5 Sundays/per academic year)
